Set in the historic heart of Franklin, Tennessee, the Haunted Franklin Tour invites adventurers and history buffs alike to explore the eerie side of this charming Southern town. Franklin, located just a short drive south of Nashville, blends rich Civil War heritage with a well-preserved downtown, where brick-lined streets and century-old buildings hold more than just the past. This 1.5-hour walking tour, operating daily, taps into nearly two decades of storytelling to reveal Franklin’s ghostly inhabitants—departed socialites, Confederate soldiers, a Civil War spy, and other restless spirits said to linger among the storefronts and homes.
What makes this experience truly stand out is its blend of history with paranormal intrigue. Unlike many ghost tours, Haunted Franklin doesn’t just scratch the surface; it plunges into authentic accounts collected over 20 years, making it Tennessee’s oldest continuously running ghost tour. Participants visit 6 to 7 specific sites throughout the historic district, each location spotlighting mysterious sightings and chilling past events that shaped the town. Whether you come for the spooky stories or the photographic possibility of catching a ghostly apparition, this tour encourages visitors to engage with history in a unique, immersive way.
The local guides are storytellers who bring characters to life—from a helpful but invisible Civil War figure to a lonely socialite trapped between worlds—and even describe encounters with a spirit afraid of the dark. The leisurely pace makes it accessible to all ages and fitness levels, walking along well-maintained streets and sidewalks.
Franklin itself offers a picturesque backdrop, known for its vibrant arts scene and preserved architecture. This tour adds a layer of intrigue to the town, offering visitors a chance to see a different side of Franklin after sunset. It’s also a standout activity during cooler months when ghost stories seem especially fitting.
For those staying overnight, downtown Franklin’s array of cafes and shops make it easy to extend your visit, and the proximity to Nashville offers added convenience.
