Explore Miami’s The Kampong through a transformative Foraged Ikebana workshop that blends a mindful garden walk with the ancient art of Japanese floral arrangement. Create your own natural masterpiece and connect with the tropical landscape.
Experience the art of Ikebana in a unique foraging workshop at The Kampong, led by botanical artist Janae. Begin with a mindful garden walk, collecting abundant flora, then create your own stunning floral arrangement. This immersive experience fosters a deeper connection with nature and inspires creativity in your own surroundings.
Participants can engage with the land and exercise mindfulness through foraging and creating their own ikebana arrangement. This class focuses on building techniques around balance and form through teachings of ikebana. Starting with a guided nature walk around the garden, we will explore topics like invasive plant species and practice experimental floral mechanics. For this class participants are asked to bring their own vessel for their creation. Choose a pot or planter that is 1-3 liters in volume. Some will be available for purchase the day of the program.
To personalize your Ikebana arrangement, consider bringing a vessel and a kenzan no larger than 10"x10"; some are available for purchase on site.
The garden walk covers uneven terrain, so sturdy shoes will keep you comfortable throughout the three-hour experience.
Miami’s warm climate means you should bring water, especially during spring and summer workshops.
Plan to arrive a few minutes before the start time to check in and settle in for a focused creative session.
The Kampong was established in 1916 by plant explorer Dr. David Fairchild as a private tropical garden, later becoming part of the National Tropical Botanical Garden network.
