Embark on a captivating journey along the Piedra Lumbre Trail at Ghost Ranch, where stunning landscapes and rich history converge. We meet on the front porch of the Welcome Center (Ghost Ranch Headquarters) at 9:00AM.
The Piedra Lumbre Trail wanders through a private area of Ghost Ranch encompassing the painted desert and a variety of ecosystems. Interpretive stops along the way reveal an outstanding story of this amazing landscape and the peoples who have called this area home.
Along the trail, we will talk about geologic features showcased in the storied cliffs hugging Ghost Ranch, the history of native peoples in the Chama Valley, Triassic fossil discoveries at Ghost Ranch as well as desert ecology and biology.
Duration: 2 - 3 miles, 2.5 hours with 350 ' elevation gain on uneven terrain
