Adventure tips

Acclimate and hydrateYou’ll gain altitude quickly; drink water before and during the tour and avoid heavy exertion your first day at elevation.

Layer for wind and sunTemperatures can swing 30°F between Denver and Trail Ridge — pack a windproof shell and sun protection.

Plan for morning wildlifeWildlife is most active early; schedule stops and short hikes earlier in the day to increase sightings and avoid afternoon storms.

Footwear and footingTrails are generally short but can be rocky or uneven; sturdy hiking shoes with grip reduce slips on compacted dirt and scree.

Recommended gear

Layered outerwear (windproof shell): Blocks wind above treeline and provides warmth during rapid temperature shifts.
Sturdy hiking shoes: Good traction and ankle support for rocky or uneven short trails.
2 liters of water or hydration system: Altitude increases dehydration risk; carry enough water for the full day.
Sun protection (hat, sunglasses, SPF): UV is stronger at elevation—protect exposed skin and eyes even on cool days.
