About This Adventure

Demo Module: Horizon SCR Rebreather

TRAINING COSTS:

  • $200 per person ($100 credit towards Rebreather Course upon sign-up)
  • 2 person minimum (if minimum participation is not met, the module will be cancelled and you can either be bumped to the next scheduled event, or refunded)

OBJECTIVE: Wonder what it would be like to really dive the Silent World without the deafening roar of your bubbles? Are you a photographer who wants to closer to your subjects without spooking them? A scientific diver who needs long bottom times? Or are you cursed with a high SAC rate and would like to extend your time underwater?

Come experience the world of SCR Rebreather diving… almost bubble-free, and gas for days, in the safe and supervised pool environment here at Bamboo Reef, and find out if this is the configuration that fits your needs.

Rebreathers have been around since the early 1800's and since then, the technology has been constantly evolving to become safer and more accessible to the recreational diving public. Now, this introductory SCR course, is your chance to experience the advantages with a revolutionary semi-closed rebreather system that is easy to use, natural to dive, and designed with all levels of diver in mind.

You'll start with a quick overall introduction to the Mares Horizon unit while it's set up by your Instructor. Then there will be a review of the Pre-Dive Safety Checklist and a briefing on how the unit functions. Next, we will set you up with a wetsuit for the splashdown in our heated outdoor pool. From there your instructor will direct you on how to don the unit, review surface procedures, familiarize you with the onboard computer, and do a weight check. Now you are ready to wander around our pool and experience the truly Silent World and observe the different buoyancy effects of a SCR system. When your time is up, your Instructor will assist you with doffing the unit and talk to you about options going forward if you decide this stealthy form of SCUBA fits your needs.


DIVER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Open Water Diver Certification or higher
  • 16 years old (parent/guardian release is required)
  • Nitrox Certified
