Delft grew rich in the 17th century as a pottery and trade center and is famously associated with painter Johannes Vermeer; its compact center still reflects that era's street pattern.
Stay on public walkways and avoid littering near canals; Delft’s historic center is sensitive to wear, so travel light and respect local signage.
