A pale sky presses down over a stand of pine as the minivan shivers along a highway of winter glare; within an hour the forest opens and snow-soft paths lead toward enclosures where polar bears and wolves move like living history. On the short-hop tour from Rovaniemi, visitors step out of the city’s northern lights glow into a working Arctic wildlife park that places animals in forested habitats rather than stadiums.
