You start above the canyon before dawn, where cliffs throw long shadows across the Jinsha River and a cold wind pulls at your jacket. The trail clings to the mountainside, steel-gray rock underfoot and the river roaring far below, daring you to look down. As the sun rises, the thirteen peaks of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain catch light, and the canyon opens into a corridor of waterfalls, terraced fields and stone guesthouses.
