The trail opens with a coastal breeze from Beau Vallon and quickly pushes the walker into steep, green slopes. Early steps move through timber plantations and stands of eucalyptus; farther up, endemic shrubs and medicinal plants narrow the track and the island widens beneath you—Victoria to the east, St Anne Marine Park to the south, Trois Frère and Signal Hill punctuating the skyline.
