A low-slung motorboat slips out of Sarigerme harbor, reed fingers brushing the hull as the Dalyan River narrows and the gull-cracked cliffs of Kaunos come into view. You can feel the river pulling you upriver — a slow current that reveals layered geology, fishing huts and, eventually, a cluster of visitors rubbing black mud into sun-warmed skin. The day moves with the tide: a detoxing mud bath and hot pools, a fresh-water dip in Köyceğiz Lake, a river cruise past carved rock tombs, and a late-afternoon swim at Iztuzu’s long sandy shore where Caretta caretta still nest.

The excursion is approximately 7–8 hours (about 450 minutes) with hotel pickup usually in the morning from Sarigerme or nearby Dalyan; exact pickup time is provided at booking.
The mud baths and hot pools are a long-standing local attraction; follow attendant instructions, rinse thoroughly afterward, and avoid if you have open wounds or sensitive skin conditions.
Iztuzu is an active nesting beach for Caretta caretta; sightings depend on season and luck—nesting occurs mainly May–August, and sightings are more likely at dawn or dusk and from a respectful distance.
Some parts of the riverfront and transfer boats accommodate strollers; however, access to the tombs and dunes involves uneven ground and steps, which limits wheelchair access.
The ruins of Kaunos reflect a multi-layered past—Carian and Hellenistic influences produced the dramatic 4th-century BCE rock-cut tombs overlooking the estuary.
Iztuzu is a protected nesting beach with restrictions to limit disturbance; visitors should follow signage and guide instructions to minimize impact on turtle nesting and dune vegetation.
