The day opens with cool highland air as the vehicle threads out of Da Lat’s pine-draped streets toward plunging rock faces and, later, wind-swept sand. Streams dare the cliffs at Pongour, where water drops in a series of stepped tiers nearly 40 meters high; farther down-valley, Elephant Waterfall thunders over volcanic rock, spray thudding against the canyon walls. By afternoon the landscape loosens into broad coastal flats and the white sand dunes of Mui Ne, where the wind sculpts ridges that beg to be ridden on an ATV.
