The pedestrianised streets of the historic core and the many green spaces just outside it, offer heaps of delightful bike routes to explore.
Your tour begins around the city walls, where you will learn of the origins of our beautiful city and how the green spaces you’re riding through came to be created. Your local guide will lead you through secret passages and take you to hidden spots that you’re unlikely to find on your own. We will stop in the historical centre to admire the many renaissance palaces and churches, as well as the magnificent Guinigi Tower. We’ll then head out to the less touristy neighbourhoods where you’ll get a flavour of local life. A generous reward for your efforts awaits, with a generous local food tasting in our favorite shop, here you can try and enjoy delicious cheeses, cured meats, extra virgin olive oil and a good glass of wine. You will learn about Tuscany’s rich food heritage the best possible way, by eating it. After the tasting we continue to explore the rest of the historical centre cycling through the medieval alleys, ancient gates, and gorgeous Romanesque churches till we reach one of the loveliest one: San Frediano Basilica to end up at the mysterious Amphitheatre Square. We will also explore the east side of the town, which is less touristy but leaves a real local taste. We can then relax in a very cozy place for our second food stop, tasting some local snacks and refreshing ourselves with a chilled drink or beer. We will get back in the saddle and finish visiting the part of the walls that remained unexplored, before going down again to the city to reach Piazza Grande: after all that exercise and good food, there’s only one way to end your extraordinary day out in Lucca: trying the best gelato in the oldest ice cream parlor in Lucca: true excellence! Our tour ends here, ask your guide for suggestions on what to see and do next during your time in the city. In colder months our tour will be run in the morning, for better light and temperature reasons and we will replace the gelato with a coffee and cake. There can be some changes to stops due to different opening times at the shops in low season.
