The Appian Way was a strategic Roman highway begun in the 4th century BC; catacombs along the route reflect early Christian and pagan burial practices from the 2nd century onward.
The Appian Way is part of a regional park—stay on designated paths, avoid trampling vegetation, and use park waste bins to protect archaeological soil and habitats.
