Riverboat Works in Salida, Colorado is a standout destination for anyone serious about custom river rafting and fishing gear. Located in the heart of the Arkansas River Valley, Salida offers access to some of the most scenic and challenging whitewater rivers in the western United States, making it an essential hub for rafters and anglers alike. Riverboat Works specializes in custom aluminum frames and inflatable rafts designed to withstand intense river conditions while enhancing comfort and functionality. Their craftsmanship reflects a deep understanding of the demands unique to the rocky, fast-moving waters typical of this region.
What makes Riverboat Works exceptional is their dedication to combining durability with thoughtful design. Their hybrid fishing rafts, like the 14' RMR SBDS Trout Slayer, receive glowing reviews for being maneuverable, comfortable, and ideal for fly-fishing adventures on rivers such as the Arkansas, Green, and Colorado. The drop stitch floors and absence of unnecessary weight make these rafts highly adaptable, while specialized features like rounded hip tubes prevent fly line snagging — a frequent frustration in traditional designs.
Salida itself is a charming mountain town surrounded by towering peaks and diverse natural features including canyon walls carved by the Arkansas River, spruce-fir forests, and abundant wildlife. The nearby Browns Canyon National Monument adds a geological highlight with its rugged granite formations and deep river gorges, preserving an important fishing and rafting corridor. Local knowledge and business like Riverboat Works contribute heavily to the outdoor culture here, providing gear and expertise that cannot be matched by larger national brands.
The sense of community at Riverboat Works is reflected in their personalized service and attention to detail. Customers traveling from hours away seek them out for tangible quality and hands-on support from knowledgeable staff. Whether outfitting a raft for a day trip or for multi-day excursions on demanding rivers, the shop blends old-school fabrication skills with modern materials to deliver dependable products built to last.
