You step into a quiet morning in Edinburgh and a polished minivan eases away from the city, windows fogging as the Lowlands fall behind and the Highlands draw near. The road climbs; moorland breathes peat‑smoke and rivers dare you with silver flashes through the valleys. Guides point out a scarp of schist, a ruined croft, and the first copper stills that hum the start of the day’s itinerary.
