Scotland has a long and interesting history. In this tour we will step back over 5,000 years to an ancient neolithic burial ground and standing stones, we will then wind our way slowly back to the present covering the Roman invasion of Caledonia to the turbulent wars of independence made famous by Braveheart and the Outlaw King. A quick sprint forward to the 15 hundreds will take us to visit Mary, Queen of Scot’s before we will follow Claire Fraser from Outlander to the period of the Jacobite Rebellion in the 1740’s and then it’s only a few short steps to present day and the magnificent Kelpie Sculptures and the world renowned Falkirk Wheel.

From our pick up point we will head out to the Bathgate hills to Cairnpapple Hill reportedly the oldest burial grounds on the mainland of Scotland. This site dates back to circa 3,000BC. There is a bit of walking to get to the site and good outdoor footwear is recommended. From here we will pass through Linlithgow and see Linlithgow Palace one of the filming locations for the “Outlander” TV series.

From Linlithgow we will drive a short journey to Bo’ness to visit Antonine’s Wall. This is a roman wall built around 200 AD. The wall was built to assist the Romans on their march north but it was abandoned not long after it was complete and the Romans retreated back to Hadrian's wall. There is also Kinniel Fort a part of the garrison for the wall.

From Bo’ness we will sprint forward into Stirling and the location of the battles of Independence Circa 1300. First we will visit the Wallace monument looking down to the site of the battle of Stirling Bridge 1297 led by William Wallace (Braveheart), we will also have the opportunity to visit Stirling castle a very significant stronghold at this time. From here we will take a short car journey to visit the Bannockburn centre, the site of the battle of Bannockburn 1314 which was a significant turning point in the battles of independence.

From Bannockburn we will head out to to Culross a lovely little village which is stuck back in time and was used as a filming location for Outlander set in the Jacobite times around 1745. From Culross we will head back towards Falkirk to see the Falkirk Wheel and the Kelpies which will complete our time travel day without a tardis in site.
