About

Join Beer Hiking Bavaria author Rich Carbonara for a three-day Beer/Food/Hike Experience in Franconia.

Day 1 will find us traveling by train from Munich to Bamberg. After checking in to our hotel, we'll have a stroll to a few of the Beer Mecca's many breweries with some historical insights on what makes Bamberg so special. We'll have dinner at the renowned Schlenkerla brewery that evening.

Day 2 will be spent doing a five mile hike in the countryside just outside Bamberg and stopping at five small regional breweries along the way.

Note there is 185m/600 ft ascent & descent over the course of the hike outside Bamberg.

Day 3 is the return trip to Munich unless you want to spend an extra day in the area or venture elsewhere.

These tours are designed around food and beer. I've been visiting the area since 1997 and have written many blogs on the various regional dishes and beer styles. You don't want to miss a dish or beer, do you?

*Please note that small breweries take vacations even during the summer and sometimes even close for a day on a whim. While not likely, it is possible that a planned stop might be closed.

Included

Two nights accommodation double occupancy (single supplement possible) in Bamberg. Two breakfasts.

Public transport from Munich to Bamberg and return. Transport to trail head and guided hiking. Guided beer history walk around Bamberg.

First beer is on me.

Not included

Food and additional beverages.

What to Expect

-Meet at Munich Main train station (HBF) at 8:30 for a 3 hour train trip to Bamberg.

-For the Bamberg Breweries Walk, we will meet at a designated brewery in the center of the Old Town. It depends on the day of the week and which breweries are open/and we decide to visit. It's your own private tour so I want to make sure you go where you'd like.

-For the Countryside Beer Hike Food Experience, we will meet at the Bamberg train station, where we'll catch a 15 minute bus trip to the trailhead.

-Tours go rain or shine. For the hiking tours, please bring a small pack to carry the essentials: rain jacket, extra layer, filled water bottle and a temperature appropriate hat. In cooler months, bring something warm just in case the temperature drops. Please wear comfortable weather appropriate walking shoes.

-Please bring enough cash for beer and food as small breweries do not accept credit or bank cards. Even in Bamberg, many of the breweries do not accept credit cards.
