The gastronomic journey begins in a small village, together with locals by tasting local goods, combining flavors and cooking with them traditional recipes of the area. Then, the local food culture is revealed through an interactive visit to the impressive Castle of Androusa and the Modern and traditional olive oil Mills. The journey ends with plenty of wine, good company and the meal we have cooked!

Highlights

  1. Discover the local gastronomy. The culinary journey begins in a small traditional village, Androusa Messinias, located 20 km from the city of Kalamata and just 12 km from the airport. In the center of the village is located our traditional olive press and there the culinary identity and history of the region begins to be revealed step by step.

  2. Cook authentic local recipes All the flavor of the region is enclosed in simple, pure ingredients such as fresh vegetables and fruits, local cheese products, herbs, spices and extra virgin olive oil. We combine local flavors and make our own “phyllo” ...Then we prepare the famous tzatziki, Cretan Dako, a traditional pie and a local specialty with beans and herbs.

  3. Discover the Castle of Androusa Walk inside the castle with the breathtaking view of the endless olive valley, learn about different varieties of olive trees and discover the history, the tradition and the mythical story of the castle’s olive trees

  4. Visit a traditional and a modern olive oil mill Only 200m away from the castle, in the center of Androusa village, visit a unique olive oil mill that has been located there for more than 120 years. Discover the history of the traditional olive oil Mill and find out about the procedure of the extraction in the past and nowadays at the modern olive oil Mill.

  5. Discover the quality of extra virgin olive oil in an olive oil tasting workshop! Inside the traditional olive oil Mill the dining table is set with the special blue olive oil tasting glasses awaiting you to become a tasting expert! Taste the extra virgin olive oil, learn about its sensory characteristics and recognize the elements that define the extra virgin olive oil.

  6. Enjoy traditional full lunch The extra virgin olive oil of different varieties is paired with traditional recipes including cheese, fruit and vegetables. You will be surprised! The day, full of emotions and new knowledge, ends with a variety of salads, homemade pie, tzatziki supplemented with traditional dishes like Kagianas, pasto, wine and dessert.
