About

The Steven Thomas is Coast Guard approved and designed for your comfort and safety, complete with radar and radio. The boat also features an air-conditioned lounge, upper sun deck, snack bar, and men’s and women’s restrooms.

The cruise takes just over one hour to get out to Tangier Island, departing from Crisfield, MD.

As the boat makes the 12 mile trip out to the island, you'll be able to:

  • See the chain of islands that form the Tangier Sound
  • Learn the history of a few of the other islands of the bay, such as Fox's Island, Watts Island, and Port Isobel
  • View the waterfowl that inhabit the Chesapeake Bay
  • Learn about Chesapeake Bay crabbing and oystering

Once on Tangier Island, discover an island with a way of life that is fast disappearing from the American scene. The island has changed very little since it was first settled by John Crockett in 1686.

Enjoy the following activities:

  • Take a relaxing afternoon stroll through the island pathways.
  • Watch the crab boats come and go from the harbor!
  • Visit the Tangier Island Museum and learn more about the history, culture and heritage of the people who live there.
  • Stroll past the lone school that provides classes for kindergarten through high school.
  • Eat at one of four great seafood restaurants (details in FAQs) or relax at the picnic tables by the dock.

Tangier Island is an island you'll never forget - nowhere in our great country is there another place like it!
