You push off in Cretas with a cool wind at your back and a long ribbon of former railway ahead—the path falling away toward the Ebro. The route opens above the Matarraña plateau with a panorama of the Puertos de Beceite peaks and patchwork fields of olive, almond and vines. As the kilometers pass the trail dives into shaded tunnels, crosses stone bridges and threads narrow ravines before spitting you out onto the bright river plain around Xerta where citrus orchards scent the air.
moderate.
5–6 hours (including transfers and stops).
Moderate—regular cyclists comfortable with a 40–50 km outing and long descents.
The greenway is largely descending with a gentle sustained grade rather than steep pitches—90% downhill/10% flat across 42 km, suitable for most confident cyclists.
The operator supplies a spotlight for two bikes, but bringing your own reliable front and rear lights is strongly recommended.
Yes—private air-conditioned transfer is included for pick-up and return to the meeting point noted in Cretas or Prat del Compte depending on booking details.
Infant seats and pet carts are available; however, participants should have at least moderate fitness and avoid the route if pregnant or with serious back/heart conditions.
The greenway follows a disused railway line once used to connect inland Teruel areas with river transport on the Ebro, repurposed as a safe, low-gradient cycling corridor.
Stay on the marked greenway to protect fragile Mediterranean scrub and riverbanks; avoid littering and respect local agricultural plots.
Matarraña Aventura operates guided outdoor trips and adventures with an emphasis on safety, stewardship, and memorable experiences.
