Adventure tips

Bring cash for vendors and tipsSmall bills are preferred at markets and for musicians on the trajinera; card machines are uncommon.

Start early to avoid crowds and rainMorning departures give cooler air, thinner crowds in Coyoacán and more pleasant trajinera conditions before summer afternoon showers.

Wear sturdy shoes for cobblestonesThe walk in Coyoacán uses uneven paving and short stairways—supportive shoes improve comfort.

Respect the chinampas and wildlifeKeep noise and litter to a minimum; axolotl and wetland birds are vulnerable—use refillable bottles and pack out trash.

Recommended gear

Comfortable walking shoes: Supportive soles help on cobblestone streets and uneven market paths.
Sun protection (hat & sunscreen): High-altitude sun can be strong—protect skin and eyes during daytime walks and on the water.
Light rain jacket: Afternoon thunderstorms are common in summer—pack a waterproof shell.
Refillable water bottle: Hydration is important at Mexico City altitude; refill where available rather than buying plastic bottles.
