You step off a low-profile dive boat and feel the Mediterranean breeze push against you; the sea ahead is a sheet of glass or a chord of chop depending on the hour, and the cliffs that give this coast its edge watch quietly.
This Double Discover Scuba starts with a short, practical classroom session on the boat or onshore, then moves to two supervised confined-water dives to a maximum of 12 meters. The Costa Brava’s coastline—rocky coves, small reefs and Posidonia meadows—frames each descent, and the underwater landscape changes from sunlit seagrass to shadowed rock ledges where octopus and moray eels roam.
Geology here is exposed: ancient metamorphic and granitic outcrops tumble into the sea, creating the small bays that shelter marine life. Culturally, the dive sites sit off villages with fishing roots and Catalan heritage; Figueres and nearby ports have long sent boats to these same waters.
Expect brief surface intervals, clear instructor direction, and a relaxed tempo aimed at first-timers. The operator provides full scuba kit and basic insurance; minimum age is 8 with swimming ability. Seas are typically calmer in the morning, and summer brings the warmest water and best visibility.
Practical prep: bring swimwear, a towel, sunscreen and a light wind layer for boat rides. Disclose any medical issues in advance—pregnancy and serious heart conditions are contraindications. Once you descend, the sea will seem to invite and steer you at once—respect it, breathe slowly, and let a professional guide you through a first real look at the Costa Brava beneath the surface.

The Costa Brava’s fishing harbors have supported small-scale maritime economies for centuries; modern dive tourism grew here in the late 20th century alongside marine protection efforts.
Many local operators follow strict no-touch and no-anchoring rules to protect Posidonia meadows; avoid disturbing wildlife and use reef-safe sunscreen.
