You drop from the shade of the parking lot into a wide, sun-hot basin where sandstone slabs tilt like sleeping ships. The 4x4 grinds up a wash and drops you at a remote trailhead; from there the desert takes over—winded scrub, slickrock stretches, and narrow gullies that seem to dare you forward.
