This half day abseiling session allows you to experience the thrill of abseiling. You will be equipped in a climbing harness and helmet before being instructed in the technique of controlling your own descent. It's an adrenaline charged experience leaning back over the the cliff-top but your instructor will talk you through while holding you securely on the safety rope. Before you know it you will be walking backwards down the cliff, and enjoying it! You can find photographs and videos of all activity venues here.
Split Rock near Wookey Hole is our abseiling site for adult groups and more adventurous youngsters. The cliffs are vertical and up to 25 metres high. The abseils are long enough to allow a 'bouncing' descent in true SAS style! For younger groups we sometimes use Burrington Combe. The cliffs are inclined slabs up to 15 metres high.
Usually a maximum of 9 but we can provide additional instructors to take additional groups.
Children under 12 often find the Split Rock venue very scary! Burrington has some gentler options, but for younger children we generally recommend climbing rather than abseiling. This is because abseiling is an 'all or nothing' activity but when climbing every participant achieves some degree of success. Call us if you would like to discuss the options.
