The guide hands you a tasting sheet and points downriver: vineyards quilt the terraces below the Gorge, while waterfalls and wind-sculpted grasslands frame the horizon.

The Columbia River corridor was long used by Native tribes and later by explorers; the region’s AVAs reflect unique soils and microclimates created by ice-age floods and volcanic basalt flows.
Many wineries in the Gorge practice dry-farming or reduced irrigation; visitors are encouraged to support producers using sustainable practices and to minimize roadside litter.
