The van threads its way out of Arequipa at dawn, volcano silhouettes sharpening as the air thins. Within hours the landscape has changed from white-stone colonial streets to wind-sculpted altiplano: salt-and-tufa flats, herds of grazing camelids, and terraces cutting the hillsides. On day one the route climbs past Mirador de los Andes (4,910 m), where the cold bites and the horizon opens to Ampato, Sabancaya and Hualca Hualca; on day two the group waits at Cruz del Cóndor as Andean condors wheel on thermal columns above a canyon that plunges more than 3,000 m.

2 days.
Suitable for travelers comfortable with long drives and short, high-altitude walks; low endurance required but expect the effects of altitude.
The itinerary reaches roughly 4,900 m at Mirador de los Andes; many travelers feel mild symptoms—headache or shortness of breath—so rest, hydrate, and avoid overexertion; notify guides if symptoms worsen.
The thermal baths are listed as an optional visit and typically require a small extra fee at the pools, not included in the standard tour price.
Most departures include hotel pickup and return in Arequipa; confirm your pickup point when booking as rural pickups may differ.
Early morning at Cruz del Cóndor—stable thermals around sunrise produce the best condor activity; dry season (May–September) often offers clearer skies.
The Colca Valley contains agricultural terraces and irrigation systems developed by pre-Inca cultures (Collagua and Cabana) that were later adapted during colonial times, leaving a layered cultural landscape.
This high-Andean ecosystem is sensitive—stay on roads and trails, avoid feeding wildlife, and support local guides and markets to help sustain traditional land stewardship.
