The Jurassic Climbs is the name of the bouldering and climbing crags at Waipu Caves Farm Park. The rock is hard limestone of good quality with fluted tops and flags on some edges.w
THIS BOOKING IS FOR PEOPLE CLIMBING THEMSELVES WITH THEIR OWN EQUIPMENT. IT IS NOT A GUIDED OR SUPERVISED ACTIVITY.
There is about 75 routes spread across 3 crags 12m high and many boulders. With your own equipment you can top rope climb, lead climb, trad climb or boulder climb.
There are hangers on the high climbs, which can be easily accessed from the top.
For those after trad climbing there are a few sections you could use your hardware.
The rock is kept clean so you can climb with maximum grip without the need for wire brushing moss or lichen.
The crags and boulders are spread around several spots and most are within 300m of the car park. With so many options we can handle about 60 climbers at a time.
There is also a camp ground with toilets, hot showers, and fully equipped kitchen. There are snacks at the office.
Always have a spotter when attempting lead climbs to ensure safety.
Bring plenty of water, especially during hot days.
Avoid climbing in rain or high winds to stay safe.
