The kayak slips forward and the lake answers: glassy, cold, and impossibly clear. Beneath a translucent surface you can watch rocks and small fish track past your paddle; above you, spruce and birch lean in as if listening. This is Lake Shikotsu, a deep caldera lake in Shikotsu-Toya National Park where clarity often reaches its peak in spring and the water dares you to look straight through it.

Suitable for people in average fitness — you should be comfortable paddling for short bursts and getting in/out of a kayak.
Yes — guides provide paddles, life jackets, kappa/boots, and dry suits in winter; guests may bring their own gear if preferred.
Children aged 4–70 may participate; under-4 and pregnant travelers are not permitted, and minors must be accompanied by a guardian.
Guides will shift the route to the more sheltered Chitose River or postpone lake access for safety; cancellations due to bad weather are handled per the operator’s policy.
