Clay Play Pottery Hand building Class is a hands-on creative workshop held at 5 Souter Place, Weston, ACT 2611, Australia. For two hours you step into a bright studio where clay, tools and a friendly teacher meet anyone curious to make things with their hands. The experience is simple: using handbuilding techniques—pinch, coil and slab—you’ll shape mugs, bowls, planters, vases or small sculptures with unlimited clay, then choose a favorite piece to be clear-glazed and kiln-fired for collection in about four weeks. The studio frames the process as both a craft lesson and a mindful break from routine. Instructors guide every phase: introductions to tools and basic joins, demonstrations for adding texture and structure, and one-on-one feedback as you model, alter and refine. Classes are intentionally beginner-friendly; no prior skills are required and participants aged 10 and up are welcome when accompanied by a booked adult. The setup includes aprons, pottery tools, tea and coffee, and clear glazing and firing of finished work. What makes this booking stand out in the Weston/Canberra area is its low barrier to entry paired with real studio facilities: unlimited clay, an operational kiln, and glazing services mean you leave not only with a learned technique but with a finished, usable object weeks later. It’s an excellent option for solo visitors looking for a calm creative interlude, couples seeking a shared hands-on project, or families wanting a constructive indoor activity. The class capacity (maximum 20 people) keeps the atmosphere social without feeling crowded, and the “no pressure” ethos encourages experimentation rather than perfection. Practical notes: arrive no more than five minutes early to check in; if you’re late, contact the studio. Results vary—handmade pieces can crack or warp in firing—and collection is approximately four weeks after the session. The studio is wheelchair accessible; the bathroom is not. Pregnant participants are welcome, and safety rules require all attendees be able to follow instructions in a shared workspace. For visitors staying in Canberra, a short drive brings you back to the city’s museums, parks and cafés after class. Clay Play anchors a small but lively arts scene in Weston, offering a compact, satisfying craft experience that’s especially welcome on cool, rainy, or otherwise indoor days. Whether you’re after a beginner pottery lesson, a mindful creative pause, or a souvenir you actually made, this class delivers practical skills and something you can use. Instructors prioritize technique—join methods, drying and trimming tips—and will help you select the piece to glaze. All tools are supplied and finished works are professionally clear-glazed. Check-in asks participants arrive no more than five minutes before class begins; come inside the studio so a teacher can check you in and contact you if late promptly.
