About This Adventure

Experience a nostalgic holiday journey aboard the East Broad Top Railroad, featuring a one-hour ride in heated train cars pulled by a historic steam locomotive. Enjoy a visit from Santa, receive a special gift, and savor cookies and hot chocolate while immersing yourself in the cherished traditions of Coal Country.

Ring in the holiday season 'retro style' and enjoy Christmas in Coal Country at the East Broad Top Railroad.

Departing from our beautifully decorated station, you'll travel aboard cozy warm train cars (heated by authentic coal stoves) for a one-hour ride behind a 107-year-old steam locomotive. Along the way, Santa Claus will board the train to visit with every family and give each child a special 'coal-themed' gift. Tickets also include a delicious cookie and a cup of hot chocolate for every passenger.

Be sure to arrive early or plan extra time after your ride to write a letter to Santa in our historic station. Food trucks and outdoor seating areas are available behind the Orbisonia Station.

A Cherished Holiday Tradition

Life in Coal Country was challenging, but Christmas in Coal Country was truly special. It was a holiday in the true sense of the word, as it was one of the few times a year that the mines were closed and families could come together. Despite the hardships they faced, miners worked tirelessly to provide for their loved ones, and the joy they found in the simple pleasures of life was evident during the holiday season. From homemade gifts under the tree to exotic fruits (like oranges) in their stockings, miners and their families cherished every moment of Christmas in Coal Country.

We invite you to pause from the hustle and bustle of the modern holiday season and experience the unique traditions and atmosphere that live on as a testament to the resilience and spirit of the people who called Coal Country home.
