Cayey is the gastronomic center of Puerto Rico. So if you’re hungry for criollo food, this is your destination! Founded in 1773 in the east central area of the Cordillera Central, located 1,500 feet above sea level. Visit the town square where you’ll learn about Cayey’s most important painter Ramón Frade. Visit the beautiful Spanish Colonial style Iglesia Nuestra Señora de la Asunción. Be amazed by archaeological discoveries on display of the original foundations and graves. Visit the Casa de la Música where you’ll learn about Puerto Rican music and the town’s music history. Enjoy a delicious lunch in the neighborhood of Guavate, famous for its Ruta del Lechón, a road full of cafeteria-style restaurants or lechoneras where you’ll be able to savor the lechón asao’, the Puerto Rican preparation of roasted pork.
