You lift off from the apron at Schaumburg Regional Airport and the suburbs fall away — patchwork roofs give way to glass canyons and the long blue sweep of Lake Michigan. For 45 minutes a pilot-guide points out landmarks as the rotor rhythm carries you along the lakefront, over Soldier Field, past Millennium Park and the Sears Tower viewing deck, and circles the stadiums where the Bulls and Cubs play.

Chicago's skyline grew rapidly after the 1871 Great Fire; the city's architects later pioneered steel-frame construction and the modern skyscraper.
Operators limit flights during low-visibility and high-wind conditions for safety; choose certified providers and avoid circling sensitive bird nesting areas along the lakefront.
