A pre-dawn drive from Kunming pushes northeast through farmland and rising ridgelines until the road unfolds into fields that look like spilled paint. At sunrise, Damakan throws rings of crimson and ochre across the valley; at sunset, Luoxianggou catches the light and seems to glow. Music Hollow (Yuepuao), Jinxiuyuan and the Seven Color Slope are places where crop patterns and light do the work of composition for you.
