Dawn over the Kathmandu Valley feels like a held breath as you drive from the city toward Kirtipur, the houses falling away to terraces and forested ridges. The trailhead climbs quickly: a steep stone stair, then a switchback through mixed rhododendron and oak, the air cooling as the city noise diminishes.
