Dive into the world of ceramics in this hands-on handbuilding class! Perfect for all skill levels, you'll master techniques like pinch pots, coil building, and slab construction. Create unique sculptures and functional pieces while discovering the limitless potential of clay, leaving with your own handcrafted ceramics ready for firing.
3 hours per week for 4 weeks
Let’s get muddy with clay. Class meets once per week on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 9 pm. The goal of the class is to learn the art of throwing, practice as much as you can during open studio hours and to complete your projects. Skills taught include throwing, trimming, attachments, and glazing.
Lots of one on one time allows students to progress independently.
Class includes 1 bag of clay, tools and studio practice time during our regular open studio hours. Studio is open Mondays / Tuesdays 6-9 pm Thursday / Friday 11 - 5 pm Saturday / Sundays 10 - 5 pm
No wet clay after the session is complete, but projects may be finished up during the four weeks following your class session. Week 1 - throwing bowls, tumblers and plates Week 2 - continues throwing practices Week 3- trimming, adding handles or adding texture Week 4 - glazing your pieces
Ages 8-16: All participants between the ages of 8 and 16 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Ages 17+: Participants aged 17 and older may register independently without a parent or guardian.
Suggested items Comfortable clothing: You might get a little messy. Closed-toe shoes: For safety.
Choose clothes you don’t mind getting a bit messy as working with clay can be hands-on and tactile.
Arrive a few minutes early to prepare your workspace and get comfortable before the session begins.
Use tools gently and follow instructor guidance to avoid damage and improve your technique.
Remember that your finished pieces need time to dry and be kiln-fired, so plan for pickup accordingly.
