Good cardiovascular fitness and strong swimming ability recommended; expect stairs, boat or rocky exits and repeated neutral-buoyancy control.
A minimum Open Water certification is required; cavern or cave training is strongly recommended because dives include overhead environments and guideline navigation.
Dives typically reach up to 30 meters (100 ft) at El Pit and are shallower in Dos Ojos; visibility is usually excellent (20–40+ meters) in calm conditions.
Not for true beginners; divers should be comfortable with buoyancy control, confined-space procedures and managing gear in vertical entries and exits.
Most tours include private transport, weights, bottled water and snacks; confirm whether tank fills (Nitrox) and personal rental gear are included before booking.
The Dos Ojos–El Pit complex is part of the Sac Actun system; divers have found human remains over 10,000 years old and the passages were important freshwater sources for ancient Maya communities.
The cenotes are ecologically fragile—avoid sunscreen, follow guide instructions, and use established lines to minimize contact with speleothems and sediment.
