This hike takes you along a lava field not far from a cliff overlooking the ocean, into the jungle where fearless travelers will crawl into a small hole in the ground, entering the earth (lava tube). This tube leads to an epic view of the ocean and has some interesting history on why it was created. Called The Cave of Refuge, it lives up to its name! Epic photo ops on this tour!
Travelers should be in good physical condition for this hike. It is NOT on level ground but instead over a lava flow. The entrance to the cave is small and there are areas where you have to crouch down. We do not recommend this tour for anyone with claustrophobia.
Hiking across lava fields and crawling into lava tubes requires good grip and ankle support.
Natural light is limited inside the lava tubes, so a reliable light source is a must.
Stay hydrated and energized during the physically demanding hike and cave exploration.
The early morning light enhances photo opportunities and offers cooler hiking conditions.
The lava tubes at Sunrise Cave are remnants of volcanic eruptions that shaped the island over thousands of years.
