You begin among impossible colors: the bright red walls of the former Cava di Bauxite ring an emerald lake, the iron-rich soil glaring against a cool Adriatic sky. From that surreal quarry the trail slides toward the sea, following low cliffs and scrubby macchia that scent the air with thyme and salt. Waves dare the rocks below; the cliffs, patient and worn, keep watch as you move east.
