Rated #1 Tour Operator on TripAdvisor 2021 & received 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025 Travellers' Choice Awards!

Huge thanks to all our amazing passengers, for helping us earn these prestigious accolades! We couldn’t do any of this without you!

Important info… Please note the order of stops is entirely tide dependent so we can make the most of your tour!

Travel up the coast from Invercargill and explore the raw Catlins landscape.

Our guided tour stops include Waipapa Point Lighthouse, Curio Bay Viewpoint, Petrified Forest Walk, McLean Fall, Matai Falls, Purakaunui Falls, and Lake Wilkie.

Tunnel Hill and the jewel of the south – Nugget Point Lighthouse. Depending on the time of arrival, we might hang out at Roaring Bay or return to Curio Bay hoping to spy some Yellow Eyed Penguins, before returning to Invercargill. (Please note...this is a guide only and it is not possible to visit all locations mentioned here, on a one day tour. Due to tide or seasonal requirements, some locations may also not be available on your tour date. The amount of time you like to spend at certain locations, will also impact the number of locations we can fit it.

There will be a couple of food breaks throughout the day - (cost not included in tour) but we recommend bringing some nibbles to keep your energy up. Our days are long so we can show you all the best bits. Don’t book an evening out after the tour!

You will need to self guide at some attractions, in line with drivers break requirements. We can discuss the best places for this, as we head towards Fortrose.

If wanting to really experience all of the Catlins, and have time to explore, it is best to email moonstarsouth@gmail.com and we can discuss requirements for a 2 day tour.

If wishing to be dropped off in Dunedin, rather than returning to Invercargill, please discuss this with us before booking. An extra fee will apply as your tour usually becomes a private tour to enable this.

Please note…some of these attractions are tide-dependent, so may not be accessible.

Adventure Tips

Pack layers for changing weather

The Catlins coast can see rapid shifts in weather; bring waterproof and warm clothing even if the forecast looks clear.

Be prepared for uneven terrain

At various stops, short walks on uneven or slippery surfaces are necessary—sturdy footwear is recommended.
