You step onto a wide, well-graded path where the Catawba River dares you to follow its voice upstream. Morning light punches through mixed hardwoods, and the trail eases beside riffles that push you toward Lower Catawba Falls — the first reward: a broad curtain of water and spray that cools the air.

The route is about 3.5 miles round trip and considered moderate — non-technical but with some sustained uphill sections and an observation tower climb.
The small-group tour meets in downtown Asheville at 8:30 a.m.; round-trip transport from the meeting point is included.
Service animals are allowed on the tour; pets typically are not accommodated in the vehicle—check with the operator before booking.
Trekking poles are optional; guides can provide poles upon request as part of the tour inclusions.
The falls lie at the headwaters of the Catawba River; the corridor has long been used by Indigenous peoples and later by settlers moving through the Blue Ridge. Upper falls were closed for decades and reopened to hikers in 2024.
Stay on designated trails and pack out trash — vegetation and stream banks are fragile. Avoid entering the river to reduce disturbance to aquatic habitat.
