Fog lifts off the bay as your bus climbs out of Cat Ba Town and the island opens into steep limestone ridges and dense tropical forest. The first steps into Cat Ba National Park drop you into a green, humid world where primary evergreen trees scrape the sky and understory ferns carpet the trail. Peaks—Ang Vat, May Bau and Ang Phay—offer short, sharp climbs that reward you with layered views of islands and Lan Ha Bay daring you to look farther.
