Frequently asked questions

Do I need a fishing license?

For casual recreational fishing from a charter in Portuguese coastal waters, the operator typically handles necessary permissions; confirm when booking for any catch-and-keep rules.

Are trips suitable for children and infants?

Yes—trips are stroller-accessible and operators note they accommodate infants, but bring appropriate lifejackets and supervise children on deck.

What happens if the weather is bad?

Trips can be cancelled for rough seas or high winds; operators usually notify you and offer a full refund if cancelled at least 24 hours prior.

Is food provided on full-day charters?

Some itineraries include a stop at a seaside restaurant (e.g., Seixal) rather than on-board catering; ask the operator when booking about meal options.

Adventure tips

Check the wind forecastAtlantic afternoons can turn breezy—confirm wind and swell the day before and choose a morning slot if you’re prone to seasickness.

Bring layered clothingA windproof shell plus a warm mid-layer handles sun, spray, and rapid temperature shifts on open water.

Pack reef- or deck-friendly shoesNon-slip soles are essential for wet decks and boarding on rocky beaches like Ursa.

Carry local currencySmall harbors and beach-side restaurants may prefer cash if you plan to stop for lunch ashore.

Recommended gear

Non-slip deck shoes: Provide traction on wet decks and make boarding smaller piers or rocky beaches safer.
Windproof shell: Protects against spray and the strong Atlantic wind, even in summer.
Sunglasses and reef-safe sunscreen: Strong sun reflection off the water makes UV protection essential for daytime trips.
Motion-sickness remedies: Tablets or bands help if you’re prone to sea-sickness on choppier days.
