You step from State Street toward a pocket beach, trading the usual tourist script for a sequence of riddles, observation challenges, and GPS pins that open one at a time. The game loops back to the start, but the route—about 2 miles—unspools like a local’s map: murals tucked behind cafés, a quiet overlook, and an old tiled storefront that holds a century of small-town stories.

Carlsbad was developed as a seaside resort in the late 19th century and named after European mineral springs; vestiges of that era remain in the village’s historic storefronts.
Respect coastal habitats by staying on public paths and avoiding tidepool disturbance; local beach cleanups help maintain the shoreline and are easy ways to give back.
