About

Hop aboard a real Northumberland Strait lobster fishing boat for a truly authentic Nova Scotia experience.

Your Discover The Strait Love Lobster experience begins as soon as you arrive at an authentic Nova Scotia fishing wharf. Take in the sights and sounds as you stroll down the dock to meet Captain Jamie on his Northumberland Strait fishing boat.

Before leaving the dock, Captain Jamie will provide a tour of his boat, a safety briefing, and description of the course you're about to set sail.

You'll cruise to Captain Jamie's fishing grounds where he will haul a lobster trap from the ocean floor, and share a lifetime of knowledge about fishing on the Northumberland Strait.

Try your hand at hauling an authentic, Nova Scotia lobster trap up over the gunwales or experience the thrill of taking the helm for a few moments.

Then, enjoy a traditional lobster roll picnic lunch provided by a Northumberland Shore favourite, Overstreet Cafe, as you cruise Nova Scotia’s scenic north shore coastline.

Please note: Due to federal fishery regulations, the Love Lobster Tour does not involve the capture of live lobsters. Lobster fishing is strictly regulated and only permitted during the commercial season. As such, our tour features a demonstration of traditional lobster fishing techniques using authentic gear, offering an educational and immersive experience without live catch

Adventure Tips

Wear layered, weather-appropriate clothing

Coastal weather can shift quickly; bring waterproof outer layers and warm clothing even in summer.

Bring sunscreen and a hat

The sun’s reflection off water intensifies UV exposure, so protect your skin during the boat tour.

Prepare for limited cell reception

Marine areas around River John may offer spotty cell service; plan accordingly before boarding.

Motion sensitivity

The boat ride includes movement on open water; those prone to seasickness should take precautions.
