A pale horizon opens and the road narrows as the minibus slides away from Cappadocia’s fairy chimneys toward a startling white plain. Within an hour the volcanic ridges drop away and the land flattens into salt: a hard, glittering surface that seems to push back at the sky. Visitors step out into a soundscape of wind and soft crunching underfoot, the salt crust cracking like dry paint.
