The Capitol’s Crypt was originally planned as George Washington’s burial place, and Jefferson’s donated library formed the core collection that led to the Library of Congress’s Jefferson Building.
Both the Capitol and Jefferson Building are managed with preservation priorities; visitors are asked to stay on marked paths, avoid touching displays, and respect conservation rules to limit visitor impact.
