The day begins before dawn in Hanoi: a van peels away from the city lights and climbs into a changing landscape of rice terraces, limestone ridges and low cloud. By mid-afternoon the road opens to Wind Pass, where cool mountain air and sweeping views give a first real sense of northern Vietnam’s raw geometry.
