Adventure tips

Secure your belongingsMonkeys are curious and will grab loose items—keep cameras, hats and bags zipped or stored during island time.

Hydrate and pace yourselfThis is a long day in sun and humidity—carry at least 1–2 liters of water and take shade breaks between activities.

Respect wildlife boundariesObserve macaques and crocodiles from the guide’s recommended distance; do not feed wild animals even if offered by others.

Choose stable footwearExpect muddy banks and wet boat decks—wear shoes with traction that can get wet and rinse afterward.

Recommended gear

Closed-toe water shoes: Provide traction on slippery docks, mudflats and boat decks.
Insect repellent with DEET or picaridin: Mangrove and village areas can have persistent mosquitoes, especially near dusk.
Waterproof phone or camera case: Protect electronics from splashes during the boat ride and from curious animals.
Light rain shell: Afternoon squalls are common in the wet season and a packable shell keeps you dry.
