Camp Baldy Overnight: Off-Grid Tent Cabins & Scenic Chairlift on Mount Baldy

Camp Baldy offers a single-night, off-grid tent-cabin escape high in the San Gabriel Mountains, located at 8401 Mt Baldy Rd, Mt Baldy, CA 91759, USA. On Saturdays only, guests ride the scenic chairlift to Manzanita Flats, where canvas cabins on raised wooden platforms look out toward Mt. Baldy Summit and the high desert. The experience folds simple comforts—pre-fixed dinner, continental breakfast, non-alcoholic drinks—into outdoors-first living: no electricity or plumbing inside cabins, limited Wi‑Fi, and staff offsite after hours. Key features are immediate: raised platform canvas tent cabins, scenic chairlift access, and views of Mount Baldy (Mount San Antonio) and the high desert basin. Natural elements include mixed-conifer stands, manzanita shrubland, granite outcrops and the high-desert transition zone that frames fiery sunsets. Mountain activities vary by date; complimentary disc rental and occasional zip-line access add summer play, while Moonlight Hike events extend the evening with guided walking under stars. Guests check in at the Cafe or Ticket Office between 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM, travel to Camp Baldy by chairlift, and settle in for a pre-set dinner served 5:00–6:00 PM (extended on Moonlight Hike dates). Saturday overnight includes continental breakfast the next morning and check-out by 11:00 AM at Top of the Notch, with time to explore the slopes afterward. The tent cabins accommodate one to four guests depending on selection; bookings are based on double occupancy. Note the lift rules: riders must be at least 40 inches tall, two passengers per chair, and gear limits apply. What makes this stay special is its combination of accessibility and wildness: you arrive via a working ski lift, sleep in a fully enclosed canvas cabin with real views of Mt. Baldy Summit, and wake to a mountain morning without the bustle of full-service lodging. For families and couples seeking an intro to backcountry-style sleepouts, Camp Baldy delivers the feel of an alpine bivy with the support of meals and lift transport. Plan ahead: the resort enforces a strict no-alcohol, no-outsides, and no-drones policy. Guests must be able to carry gear across uneven terrain and follow mountain safety guidance. Special accommodations like wheelchair access to the lift and cabins can be arranged with advance notice. This one-night escape is an efficient way to experience the San Gabriel Mountains’ high-country light and take in a genuine mountain night on Mount Baldy. Be aware purchases are final: reservations cannot be cancelled, refunded, or transferred unless otherwise specified. Once the resort closes for the night, staff not on site and communications are limited. Vegetarian meals are offered and most dietary needs can be accommodated with advance notice. Small children may not be carried on the lift; gear transported on the lift must meet the stated size limits.
