Suitable for people with a moderate fitness level who can walk 7–8 km and manage exposure to heights.
Step from the streets of Málaga into a 7.7 km walkway clinging to the Desfiladero de los Gaitanes. This guided day tour combines transport, official entry, and a local guide for a dramatic hike that culminates on a 105‑meter suspension bridge.
A thin ribbon of walkway runs along the jaw of the Gaitanes Gorge, sunlight cutting across limestone walls and the Guadalhorce River daring you to look down. On a guided tour from Málaga the day begins with a pickup at Bus Stop nº11, Unicaja Bank, and a steady drive inland as the city gives way to olive groves and the first grey teeth of the Desfiladero de los Gaitanes. By the time the guide fits your helmet and you step onto the wooden boardwalk, the canyon has its own tempo: wind that tests your balance and cliffs that seem to lean in to watch every step.

Wind funnels through the gorge — strap your hat and secure cameras or they can easily be lost over the edge.
Bring at least 1–1.5 liters of water per person; there are no reliable refill points on the route.
The walk is on wooden and steel boardwalks with occasional stone paths; good soles improve traction and comfort.
The final suspension bridge sits 105 m above the river — if you have severe vertigo this excursion is not recommended.
Built in the early 1900s to service a hydroelectric project, the Caminito fell into disrepair before a major restoration reopened the route in 2015 as a managed attraction.
Visitor numbers are managed and strict safety rules keep hikers on the boardwalk to protect fragile cliffside flora and nesting raptors.
Closed-toe shoes with good grip protect your feet on wood, steel, and stone surfaces.
Carry water to stay hydrated through sun and exertion — there are no reliable refill stations on-route.
